Upon planning the trip, I decided that it’d be cool to watch a game from my hotel room, and the hotel where this is possible is the Hilton. When I was making reservations, the hotel has rooms listed as Ball Park View rooms, and while this is the case, that does not mean you’ll be able to view the games from your room. Unfortunately, most of these rooms look at the large left field facade. To compound onto the confusion, the staff is unaware of fans that might be interested in this ability to watch baseball from their rooms (and it is the Orioles, so unless the Yankees, or Sox are in town, tickets are available). There are a few seats that peer into the park for a fantastic view, and there are special suites with balconies for watching, but these are obtained by luck or an extra $300.
To solve the issue, they should better classify the rooms, or fit fans who do not plan on walking across the street, into the rooms that are more suitable (rather than attempt to compensate them by $10 bar food). I warn all fans to be aware of the misleading “Ball Park View.”
However, there is a positive to this hotel which is the 4th floor roof top (by their fitness center and pool), and even though private events are held there at times, it’s possible to go there to watch the game (if you’re staying at the hotel), or you could tailgate in and get a game for entirely free. The view is fantastic, and doesn’t require a ticket and you get to see the crowds scurry in and out of Eutaw Street.
In Toronto, fans also have the ability to walk into the Renaissance hotel restaurant and sit down and watch a game for free. Even though it is expected you buy a meal, the money you save on tickets (for that view) will cover it. So next time you visit on of these cities, check out a room with a real view!
